Corporate events

It is no coincidence that more and more managers are contacting us to organise corporate events, meetings, team-building activities and incentive trips for their managers, clients, partners or employees – whether to reward and thank them for a job well done, or to give colleagues who work remotely within the same organisation or in different departments the chance to meet in person.

Teamwork and team spirit

A boat is a small enterprise and, as such, requires – in order to function perfectly – leadership, commitment and a shared effort, but also solidarity amongst the crew, a good atmosphere, empathy, loyalty, communication, teamwork and a sense that our efforts are directed towards a common goal. The boat cannot sail without its crew, and the crew is left ashore without a boat.

Sailing has helped to strengthen bonds and has already inspired many of our crews, thereby fostering that team spirit so vital for the vessel – whether small or large – to stay on course in harmony and be able to discover new routes.

Accompanied by a professional skipper with experience not only in sailing but also in teaching and team-building, your team can enjoy a peaceful outing to savour the sea and relax, or an exciting experience taking part in a regatta with various sailing boats. All set against an unrivalled backdrop: the view of the city of Barcelona from the sea.

We can fully adapt to your needs to create corporate events. We organise events for small groups of up to 8–10 people on a single boat or for larger groups with the necessary number of sailing boats. Trips lasting a few hours, a full day or a weekend.

Team-building activity on a sailing boat for companies

A team-building event is a one-off activity that allows teams or work groups to share a fun experience outside the workplace. It takes place in an informal, enjoyable and collaborative setting. A shared challenge is set, such as organising a company regatta or sailing several boats together without competing.

This type of corporate activity helps colleagues get to know each other better and share an experience outside the daily work routine. All of this serves to forge or strengthen bonds between people in a new, challenging and positive environment.

“When we don’t know which port we’re sailing towards, no wind is favourable.”
Danish proverb.

Why organise a team-building event at sea?

The sea fascinates us; it inspires awe with its grandeur, its strength and its mesmerising power. It draws us into its web simply by gazing at it. Perhaps its magnetism also stems from the secrets it conceals, the ever-changing nature of the sea, how unpredictable it can be, and the lack of control we have over it.

Casting off and entering its domain makes us feel small and great at the same time.

As soon as we cast off, we realise something very important: for this boat we are in to sail, we must be united, in sync, communicate, plan, have common goals, distribute tasks, take responsibility for their execution, lead – in short, work as a team.

To achieve this, we need trust, empathy, responsibility, the ability to manage expectations and emotions, to maintain mindfulness, to face challenges, to stay motivated…

A boat is a powerful metaphor for leadership and teamwork, in which we set common objectives and goals within a shared vision, designing action plans and carrying out agreed actions to achieve them.

Benefits of team-building on sailing boats

Before leaving port, we take some time to explain the activity we are going to undertake and to go over the safety rules with all participants. Safety comes first, so even when it comes to a regatta-style event, our main aim is to have fun and ensure the event is conducted safely.

We will then plan the manoeuvre and coordinate the necessary actions to ensure it is carried out successfully, so that we can set sail.

We will practise coordination and communication to cast off the mooring lines, hoist the fenders and set out to sea.

It’s time to hoist the sails

We’ll learn how winches and cleats work, identify the ropes needed to carry out the task, and how to perform the action efficiently and safely. Let’s get down to work.

We’ll practise coordination, communication, trust and team spirit.
The sails are hoisted – what now?

Whether it’s a corporate sailing regatta or a non-competitive joint voyage involving several boats, the time comes to make decisions in challenging situations.

We’ll have to decide our course and set the sails to reach our destination at the right moment; to do this, we’ll need to manoeuvre (tacking, gybing, adjusting the sail size to the prevailing wind)

We will discover our skills, resources, strengths and limitations (both personal and as a team), which will lead us to develop the creativity, flexibility and skills needed to respond to the demands of the moment in unfamiliar situations and in the face of possible changes in wind direction. We will realise the importance of support, communication, commitment, leadership and team cohesion.

“The pessimist complains about the wind, the optimist hopes it will change, the realist adjusts the sails.”
William George.
