Learning to sail<\/strong> is becoming an increasingly popular activity. We are captivated by the sensation of a sailing boat gliding through the water without the noise of an engine. However, many people are not content to be mere spectators; they also want to understand how and why things happen on board and to play an active part in making it all happen. It is to them that we dedicate our full attention in our sailing courses. What does learning to sail mean to us?<\/h2>\n[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=”” text_direction=”default”]\u201cYou learn to sail by clocking up the miles.\u201d This is a phrase we hear a lot these days, but we don\u2019t entirely agree. It\u2019s true that without getting out to sea, it\u2019s difficult to learn very much. But it\u2019s worth emphasising that, for us, learning in depth involves much more than just knowing how to handle ropes and set sails.<\/p>\n

At sea, we must be completely self-reliant. To achieve this, we need our own resources to deal with any unforeseen circumstances. At present, there is no manual that covers every possible scenario we might encounter whilst sailing, as there are simply too many.<\/p>\n

That is why we believe in the value of learning to think for oneself rather than simply memorising steps. Once we reach this point, the miles sailed do become very important, as the more experience we gain, the more resources we develop. That is why our teaching system pays special attention to every tiny detail so that you can learn to sail and become self-sufficient.[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=”” text_direction=”default”]\n

Living on board and sailing a yacht for a full week is, in fact, one of the most rewarding learning experiences. It is when we explore things for ourselves, seeking possible answers, that we understand the \u2018why\u2019 behind things, and that is when real learning takes place. For this reason, our method is based on encouraging students to think for themselves. By asking questions, we get each student to think through the process of finding answers, thereby achieving a deeper understanding of each topic.<\/p>\n

When we have reached conclusions on our own, even if we forget them at some point, we are certain that we will be able to reach the same conclusion again by reflecting on the subject. This gives us a sense of security and self-confidence; it empowers us and makes us self-reliant \u2013 exactly what we need for sailing.
